Where Projecthab was born
“I enjoy taking care of homes. I like to find the source of anomalies and fix them. I don’t want to hide what’s wrong; I want to address it.”
Since she was little, Sandrina’s passion has been houses, their interiors, and the lives that unfold there. Long before becoming a civil engineer, Sandrina was already building houses. At the age of 9, she would wander from sawmill to sawmill collecting small pieces of wood, which she would later combine to construct houses and little cottages. What fascinated her the most was their interior layout: how kitchens, living rooms, and bedrooms related to each other, how they combined to create a whole where one would want to live.
Years later, it was no surprise to anyone when she became a civil engineer. Now she could fulfill her desire to take nature and the materials at her disposal and transform them into places to inhabit. She started with subdivisions, on-site construction, moved on to buildings, and even outdoor arrangements.
She distanced herself from her beloved houses just enough to learn a bit of everything, broaden her horizons, and understand different contexts.
In 2004, everything changed. The high-risk pregnancy of her second child forced her to take a break from construction sites. At home, to stay connected to the work she loves, she accepted a freelance project. What no one knew at the time is that it would be the first of many.
And so Projecthab was born. That was 18 years ago.
Later, she specialized in the redevelopment of buildings. As she explained to a young niece, she became a sort of doctor for houses.
She adores traditional Portuguese architecture and its charming buildings.
She knows well that old houses sometimes have pathologies that must be treated and not hidden. In an old building, she first wants to identify its problems, determine their cause, and treat their origin. Then, together with the owners, she returns the charm to them and brings comfort and energy efficiency. She creates perfect symbioses between the rustic and the contemporary, always tailored to those who will unfold their lives there.
